"Is that really you God?"

Last week I learned how to hear the voice of God but also obey it. If you have been keeping up with my other blog post you will know that Sharee my school leader's husband was teaching all of that. But I’m not here to talk about his teaching, I’m here to talk about the book we were required to read this past week. It’s called, "Is that really you God?" written by Loren Cunningham the founder of YWAM.

It started out when he was 26 years old and he got a vision from the Lord. What he saw was a wave of young adults and youth crashing over the land, spreading the gospel. That little vision that God put in his mind was what started it all. The coolest part for me was even though some people around him thought he was crazy he still acted on it. I’ve learned that when you obey God's voice, He’s not going to leave you hanging. He’s going to make a clear path for you, because honestly if you think about it, its God's plan not ours. If God wants it to happen He will make a way, and that’s just what He did for Loren Cunningham.

In the middle of the book the Lord gives him another vision of a white boat but what Cunningham and his wife and everyone that worked with him did was wrong. They started giving their full attention on the boat instead of God. They left God in a corner of a room and but the boat as their prize and idol. When Loren Cunningham and the people around him realized what they have been doing, they wept for days and begged God's forgiveness. God forgave them, but he took the boat away from them as well.

Soon afterwards the lord took them to Kona, were that is when they started the very first YWAM base. Again Cunningham heard God's voice and obeyed it. Even when all that other drama happened in the past, it didn’t stop him. Then at the end of the book the Lord blessed them with another white boat and they called it Anastasis which is the greek word for resurrection. I am amazed at how this one man listened to the voice of God and because of that there are so many YWAM bases all over the world. I am so honored to be part of it all. Just think if we heard the voice the lord and obeyed it what would God do through our lives? That is one thing that has challenged me to this day.

I’ve learned this past week that it’s easy to hear and obey God's voice. We just make it hard. I love how Loren Cunningham puts it, "This is what hearing God's voice is all about...getting to know Him better." That’s so true, the more you listen and obey Him, you get to know Him more! It’s scary and exciting all at the same time, but it’s worth it.
